About Matine Rahmani

Address: Woodend, Victoria

Born: Canberra, ACT

email: matine4bendigo@gmail.com

32 years old, married with 2 children

Why is Matine standing?

He is standing for parliament because he believes major party politicians are focussing on abusing the other party instead of doing their best for Australia.

Matine knows he can do a better job than the current politicians, and is passionate about changing the political system for the better.

On climate change:
  • The major parties are not doing enough - they are reactive and will only do the bare minimum until it's too late

  • I do believe in climate change

  • I do believe we are not doing enough for the future of our country and our children

  • I believe there are many things that we can all do to make a difference, such as new houses being carbon neutral, investing in renewable energy sources, improving public transport

  • I believe we need real concrete targets for improvement, our current targets are too soft and without political / personal ramifications.

For the electorate:
On social matters:
  • Develop the Bendigo Nearshore Hub (BNH)

    • Provide a cost effective alternative to back-office offshoring - improving quality of services and reducing total cost of ownership

  • For manufacturer's and farmers:

    • Improving the fair trade agreement for Australian's manufacturer's and farmers

    • Provide grants for manufacturer's to reduce production costs

    • Invest in sophisticated manufacturing where overseas low cost manufacturers can't compete

  • Improve transportation

    • Fast rail to / from Melbourne

    • Create sustainable public transport options between towns

  • Maintain that country feeling

    • Cap population growth in country towns

    • Invest in education and health so our towns are self-sufficient

  • I do support same sex marriage

  • I do support women's right to have a legal and safe abortion

  • I do support euthanasia within the right paramaters - I acknowledge the complexity and we don't yet have all the answers

  • I do support Australia accepting genuine refugees:

    • We should increase our refugee intake

    • We should dramatically reduce processing time

    • We should strongly discourage refugees travelling by boat
